Why didn’t my recipe import?

When an import fails, Aioli shows the reason on screen and offers a next step, such as trying again, saving a close match or creating the recipe with AI.

Written for the Aioli iPhone app. Last updated

Aioli tells you why a recipe did not import, and the reason decides what to try next. Read the title at the top of the screen, then match it to the list below.

What the message means

  • Aioli can’t read this site yet. Aioli does not support that site. Save a close match or create the recipe with AI.
  • This recipe is behind a subscription. Aioli read the title and photo, but the ingredients and method are for subscribers only.
  • Aioli can’t see this one. The site may be blocking Aioli, or the post may be private or removed. Try again first.
  • This post is age-restricted. It only opens for signed-in viewers who are old enough, so Aioli cannot read it signed out.
  • This one’s blocked in your region. The site will not serve the recipe where you are.
  • We couldn’t reach that site. Nothing answers at that web address. Check the link for a typo.
  • That page holds several recipes. Open the one recipe you want and share that link instead.
  • Only sent to people who comment. The creator sends the ingredients and method to people who comment, so they are not on the post.
  • The recipe is spoken, not written. The recipe seems to be in the video audio, but Aioli could not turn it into steps this time.
  • This doesn’t look like a recipe. Aioli read the page or post, but it did not give a clear recipe.
  • We couldn’t find a recipe here. The page or post never lists the quantities or steps.
  • That’s odd, this one usually works. Something went wrong on Aioli’s side. One more try normally works.

What to try

  1. If you see Try again, tap it.
  2. For an Instagram or Facebook post you can see when you are signed in, tap Sign in to Instagram or Sign in to Facebook. Aioli then reads the post you can see.
  3. Look under Closest in Aioli for a similar recipe you can save instead.
  4. Tap Create with AI to start a recipe from the title Aioli detected.
  5. Tap Try a different link to go back and paste another link.

Not every option shows for every message. Aioli only offers the ones that can help. If you can see the recipe yourself but Aioli cannot, open it in your browser or app and copy the recipe across.

Tell us about it

On the import screens, Send import feedback under Import not quite right? opens an email to the Aioli team with your link attached. For a site Aioli does not support, a card asking whether you need support for that site lets you request it the same way.

If a photo did not import

Aioli shows Couldn’t extract recipe when it cannot find a recipe in the photo, and saves nothing. Try another photo.
