By using the Service, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. Our Terms of Service are available at https://www.aioli.recipes/terms.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide, information generated through your use of the Service, and information from third-party services where you choose to connect, import, or interact with them.
Account information may include your name, email address, username, profile photo, authentication information, account preferences, household membership, and other information you provide when creating or managing an account.
User Content may include recipes, recipe links, recipe text, images, videos, notes, ratings, tags, collections, meal plans, grocery lists, pantry information, household content, comments, profile information, AI prompts, AI outputs, and support messages.
When you import or save recipes or other content from third-party sources, we may collect the URL, source metadata, title, author or creator information, image or thumbnail information, ingredient and instruction text, captions, extracted recipe data, and other information needed to provide the import feature.
If you use household, collaboration, community, public profile, public recipe, collection, or sharing features, we may collect information about household membership, shared content, invitations, permissions, edits, attribution, and activity related to shared content.
We may collect usage, device, and log information such as screens viewed, features used, recipes saved, imports attempted, cooking sessions, search queries, grocery list activity, meal planning activity, timestamps, IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, app version, language, crash logs, diagnostics, and performance data.
If you use AI-powered features, we may collect and process the information you submit to those features and the outputs generated, including recipe links, recipe text, prompts, preferences, substitutions, meal planning requests, and related context.
You may choose to provide dietary preferences, allergens, dislikes, cuisines, nutrition preferences, cooking goals, household preferences, grocery preferences, store preferences, or other food-related information. Some of this information may be sensitive depending on your jurisdiction or what you choose to provide.
We may collect approximate location information from your IP address. With your permission, we may collect more precise location information to provide location-based features, local grocery experiences, localized content, local offers, or sponsored placements. You can control device-level location permissions through your device settings.
We may collect and maintain your communication preferences, marketing consent choices, unsubscribe status, and related records to manage communications and comply with applicable law.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to provide, operate, maintain, secure, personalize, and improve the Service; create and manage accounts; import, parse, save, organize, and display recipes; generate meal plans, grocery lists, recipe suggestions, substitutions, and AI-powered outputs; enable household collaboration and sharing; sync content across devices; provide search, recommendations, community features, and creator features; understand feature usage; detect and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical issues; enforce our Terms; respond to support requests; communicate with you; show ads, sponsored content, offers, or partner recommendations where applicable; conduct research, analytics, and product development; comply with legal obligations; and protect our rights.
We may use information such as your account details, app activity, preferences, household information, subscription status, and food or dietary preferences to personalize the Service and, where permitted by law and subject to your choices, to tailor product updates, offers, tips, and marketing communications.
We may use aggregated or de-identified information for analytics, research, product improvement, advertising measurement, market insights, partnerships, commercial purposes, and other lawful business purposes where the information does not reasonably identify an individual user or household.
3. AI Providers and Automated Features
Aioli's AI-powered features — including recipe import, recipe parsing, the AI cooking assistant, meal planning, and substitutions — run on AI models from third-party providers. We currently use Google (Gemini) and OpenAI, and may also use other providers, such as Anthropic, as our AI capabilities evolve. We may use a single provider or a mix of providers for a given feature.
When you use an AI feature, we send only what that feature needs to work: this may include your messages to the AI assistant, saved recipes, the link, webpage, or photo you're importing, and your household's food preferences, including allergens, so that suggestions and imports stay accurate and safe. We do not include your name, email address, or other account-identifying information in what we send to AI providers, and this information is only sent at the moment you actively use an AI feature.
Information sent to AI providers is not sold and is not used for advertising. We require any third-party AI provider we share data with to protect that data to a standard that is the same as, or equivalent to, the protections described in this Privacy Policy and required under applicable law.
You can turn AI features off at any time in Settings. Declining or disabling AI features will not affect your ability to use Aioli's non-AI features, such as manually entering and organizing recipes.
AI outputs may be inaccurate or incomplete. Do not rely on AI outputs for medical, allergy, nutrition, food safety, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
4. How We Share Information
We may share information with vendors and service providers who help us operate the Service, such as cloud hosting and infrastructure providers, database and storage providers, authentication providers, analytics providers, crash reporting and diagnostics tools, AI providers, email delivery, customer communications, marketing automation and contact-management providers, customer support tools, app stores, payment processors if paid plans launch, advertising, attribution and measurement partners, security and fraud-prevention providers, and legal, compliance, and accounting providers.
If you use household, collaboration, community, public profile, public recipe, collection, or sharing features, the information you choose to share may be visible to other users or the public, depending on your settings and the feature. Shared content may be saved, copied, edited, exported, or re-shared by others.
If you choose to interact with third-party services, links, platforms, grocery partners, advertisers, creators, or integrations through Aioli, we may share information as needed to provide the feature or complete the interaction. Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
We may show ads, sponsored content, affiliate links, partner offers, grocery-related offers, local offers, or product recommendations. These may be based on contextual information, approximate location, app activity, preferences, or other information, where permitted by law and subject to your choices.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some privacy laws may define certain advertising, analytics, or measurement activities as sharing, selling, or targeted advertising. Where required, we will provide applicable rights and opt-out choices.
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, court orders, subpoenas, law enforcement requests, or government requests; enforce our Terms; detect or prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents; protect the rights, property, or safety of Aioli, users, or others; or defend against legal claims.
We may disclose or transfer information in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar transaction.
5. Cookies, SDKs, and Tracking Technologies
We and our service providers may use cookies, mobile SDKs, pixels, local storage, device identifiers, analytics tools, crash reporting tools, attribution tools, ad measurement tools, fraud and security tools, and similar technologies to operate, secure, analyze, advertise, measure, and improve the Service.
You may be able to control cookies through your browser settings and mobile tracking permissions through your device settings. You may also use consent tools where required, in-app settings where available, or contact privacy@aioli.recipes. Disabling certain technologies may affect Service functionality.
6. Marketing and Communications Choices
We may send you service-related messages, transactional messages, account notices, security notices, verification emails, legal notices, and other non-marketing communications related to your account or the Service.
Where permitted by law, and subject to your choices and any required consent, we may send product updates, feature announcements, cooking tips, recipe inspiration, offers, surveys, sponsored or partner content, and other marketing communications.
You can opt out of marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link or contacting privacy@aioli.recipes. Transactional and service-related emails are separate from marketing emails and may be sent even if you opt out of marketing, where lawful. We do not intend to include promotional content in transactional or service-related emails.
7. Push Notifications
If you enable push notifications, we may send account, security, service, household activity, grocery list, meal planning, cooking prompt, product update, offer, sponsored content, or partner content notifications where permitted. You can control push notifications through your device settings and any in-app settings available.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, maintain security, and support legitimate business needs.
If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with your account within a reasonable period, generally within 45 days, unless we need to retain it for legal, security, fraud prevention, backup, accounting, dispute resolution, shared household continuity, public content, or other legitimate purposes.
Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before being deleted or overwritten in the ordinary course. Content shared with other users, households, or public areas may remain available to those users or in those areas unless separately deleted where technically and legally feasible. Aggregated or de-identified information may be retained indefinitely.
9. Household Removal and Shared Content
If you are removed from a household or leave a household, you will lose access to household-shared content. Your member profile and dietary preferences may be removed from the household and no longer used in the household’s combined dietary profile. However, content and activity you previously contributed to the household may remain visible to remaining household members, including shared recipes, meal plan entries, shopping list items, meals marked as cooked, household activity, and attribution or contribution history where applicable. Your personal recipes, personal plans, and private account content remain with your account unless you shared them.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical, administrative, and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information, such as encryption where appropriate, access controls, monitoring, vendor controls, and security practices. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will always remain secure, private, or available. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and devices.
11. International Transfers
We are based in the United Kingdom, and our service providers may process information in the United Kingdom, United States, European Economic Area, and other countries. If you access the Service from outside those countries, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries that may have different data protection laws than your location. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
12. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. In the EEA, UK, or other jurisdictions with a higher digital consent age, users must meet the applicable minimum age or have appropriate parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us without appropriate consent, contact privacy@aioli.recipes.
13. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion; request a copy of your information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; opt out of certain targeted advertising, sale, or sharing activities; appeal a decision regarding your privacy request; and lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
To exercise privacy rights, contact privacy@aioli.recipes or use in-app tools where available. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Some information may be exempt from deletion or access requests under applicable law, including information needed for legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, internal operations, or protection of rights.
We do not guarantee that the Service will include a self-service data export feature. Where required by applicable law, you may request a copy of personal information we hold about you, or request portability of eligible information, by contacting privacy@aioli.recipes.
14. UK, EEA, California, and Other Regional Notices
For users in the United Kingdom and EEA, our legal bases for processing personal information may include performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, legal obligations, and protection of vital interests where applicable. Providing the Service, account management, household collaboration, recipe imports, AI features, meal plans, and grocery lists may be processed to perform our contract with you. Analytics, product improvement, security, fraud prevention, debugging, personalization, and service quality may be processed based on legitimate interests, except where consent is required. Precise location, certain marketing, and certain advertising or tracking activities may rely on consent where required. Legal compliance relies on legal obligation.
If applicable privacy laws give you rights to know, access, delete, correct, or opt out of certain uses of personal information, you may exercise those rights by contacting privacy@aioli.recipes or using any in-product tools we provide. We do not sell personal information for money. Where required, we will provide a way to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or similar processing. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of users under 16.
15. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, apps, social media platforms, grocery partners, advertisers, creators, publishers, or other services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or policies of third parties. Please review third-party privacy policies before providing information to them.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service, by email, or by other reasonable means. The updated Privacy Policy will be effective as of the date stated in the updated version.
